Tipu's army was better trained and equipped than the British at that time. His field pieces were cast under French Supervision. Tipu had within the Fort itself a gun foundry, a cannon foundry and a powder factory. ( These pictures were taken after they were captured.)

To serve as a  Dewan under three vastly differing personalities, especially two dictators who were basically anti brahmin and held conflicting views on warfare demanded the utmost diplomacy and skill whilst still being held high in their personal esteem.
